Neural underpinnings of neurostimulation induced weight gain in Parkinson’s disease

The purpose of the applied project is to investigate neural indices of body mass (BM) gain in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) after deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN). For this, a multimodal and multidimensional study investigating clinical, behavioral, imaging and neurophysiological alterations within the same sample of PD patients will be used. The role of brain-periphery crosstalk will be assessed to answer the question how neuronal network alterations drive BM changes in PD patients after STN DBS, which will give further insights into the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms.
